Home -> Vans Air Force topic: What kind of Rivet Gun to buy?

Author: Rob_Prior@... Time: Wed Aug 22, 2001 2:00 pm PDT Link

Just looking for more advice...

I've seen that Brown, Avery, Cleaveland, and others all have rivet gun
offerings, ranging from $79 to $539 just for the gun. I'll be buying
Cleco's from Brown anyway, so was looking at their guns, they have a
Taylor 3x for $149-ish, and a Sioux 3x for $239-ish. Anyone have
either of these? Could it be worth the extra $90 for a possibly
better rivet gun?

I have the Taylor and Sioux ***DRILLS***. And in my opinion, **YES**
the Sioux is worth the price difference, even though the Taylor is a
nice *drill*. I cannot comment on the two Rivet Guns though as I do
not have both.

Your mileage may vary.

I have the Taylor, and built my entire RV with it. It is the $149 ish. I
don't know how I could have improved by spending more money on a rivet gun.
Just be sure you get the swivel flush set with the rubber guard from Avery.
You can drive perfect rivets with a $149 gun as well as a $500 gun. I have
the 2X variety, as I didn't have to do my spars. It was plenty strong
enough.

Two rules to keep in mind while working on this project - or anything
else for that matter.

Rule 1. You get what you pay for - usually.

Rule 2. Buy expensive tools and only cry once.
