Home -> Vans Air Force topic: Wires in Vertical Stabilizer?

Author: robert@... Time: Wed Aug 29, 2001 3:19 pm PDT Link

I'm about to close the Vertical Stabilizer and wondering about any
electrical I might need to the top of the tail. I think I'm going to
put in some "just in case I need them" wires, but I would like to
know what, if anything (electrical) might end up on top of the tail?
I don't seem to recall seeing beacons on RVs - I'm not sure why they
aren't there or if I just wasn't paying attention? What about strobe
or nav or?

Robert, Put in some flex conduit from Van's or just grommeted holes w/ a
pull string. I put my nav antenna in the top of the VS. Jeff Farrar, RV8A
N4ZJ, Baffling, canopy, fitting wings to go.

I just ran a string through mine (used some plastic grommets on the bottom
rib and the rear spar). I will have a combo strobe/white light at the
rudder bottom. No antennas planned...why use a VOR any more? Everybody's
airplane will be different. If you think you might run wires, why not drill
holes in the ribs (or use the lightening holes) and mount a piece of 1/2"
PVC pipe for a conduit?
