Home -> Vans Air Force topic: Request for input on upcoming product evaluation polls....

Author: "Doug Reeves" <vansairforce@...> Time: Thu Aug 30, 2001 8:18 am PDT Link

I'm about to start a series of polls at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vansairforce evaluating all of the
things people put in their RV's - engine monitors, autopilots, etc.
You know: Would you buy it again? Love it? Hate it? That kind of
thing. You will be able to vote, nice bar charts will appear, and
percentages will automatically be totaled.

Before we start however there is one question I would like to put to
the group (for a vote in a poll of course).

Do we create a poll for each INDIVIUAL model or do we create a poll
for each CATAGORY with all the models we can think of in it? There
are pros and cons to each method (described below):

ONE POLL FOR EACH CATAGORY: you get all of the data on one screen,
the percentages don't really mean much in this scenario but the bar
chart that is created gives you a quick 'at a glance' method of
determinining which products satisfy the most pilots. An example of
this method can currently be seen in the 'Polls' section now - it's
called 'What are the options you chose for your RV?' and it as
tallied over 940 votes so far. You don't really get much out of the
percentage numbers, but you can tell in a heartbeat which propellor
configuration the people who voted prefer by looking at the bar chart
that displays after you vote (you can go back later and check out the
updated totals if you wish). In the poll under each model listed
would be, say, three questions gauging your satisfaction. You would
rate those products you have direct experience with.

Rocky Mountain Instruments Micro Monitor
E.I. Ultimate Bar Graph Engine Analyzer
EIS - Engine Information System
Simple Digital System
Vision Microsystems VM1000
Sierra Flight Systems Engine Airdata Unit
I-K Technologies Flight and Engine Monitor

A SEPARATE POLL FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL MODEL: The percentages generated
would be accurate, however you wouldn't be able to get a feel for the
big picture with just a glance.

I'm going to create a poll shortly for you to vote (by catagory or by
individual item).

Best,
Doug

Navaid Device Wing Leveler

S-Tech ST180

-Doug,
One major advantage in polling individual models is the help it would
offer builders contemplating buying e.g. An Autopilot. The
satisfaction level between different models/suppliers could only be
evaluated if individual polls were conducted. It might also have a
secondary effect of sharpening the responses of those suppliers who
seem to lose their enthusiasm for replying to queries promptly once
the sale has been made, if sales were hit by bad "press" in the
groups.

Jim

Good point, Jim.
You know, I see the strong points for both types of polls. I guess
there COULD be both types, a 'category' containing all known models
(of autopilots for example) and for the occasional individual model
(Navaid).

I was just initially looking for the least amount of work for the
most return. I would imagine several poll 'evals' would be
individual in their nature anyway (ex. Koger shade).

I bet we end up with a mixture of the two.

Best,
D

Doug,
I nearly suggested that both polls would be valuable, then I
remembered that you would be doing the work, I just didn't have the
brass neck!
