Home -> Vans Air Force topic: 9A Aileron bellcrank bracket bolts

Author: "rv9builder" <rv9builder@...> Time: Fri May 3, 2002 9:41 am PDT Link

Is anybody putting Locktite on the bolts that hold the brackets for
the aileron bellcrank to the spar? If you just need to torque them
to the correct value, should you also put Boelube on the bolts so
they don't get stuck in the nutplates?

Thanks,

Mark,

The nutplates are designed to hold the bolts from backing out, much like
locknuts. There is some need to lube a screw of #8 or #6 size when running
them into a nutplate for the first time. I've seen them snap off in the
nutplate. I've never had that happen for a bolt AN3 or larger though. These
are structural bolts and should be able to handle the torque. For the most
part bolts should be torqued dry so I tend not to use lube on the threads.

Regards,
Bob
