This is the time of the year when EAA Chapters and Chapter members
are able to purchase EAA books and videos at half price. Does
anyone know if the tapes on building an RV-8 (i.e. the "From the
Ground Up" series) are included in this? Also, if one is building
something other than an RV-8, would the tapes still be of value?
Thanks.

I watched a most of the original shows and wasn't too impressed from a
builders viewpoint. The show was more geared towards showing the rest of the
viewing audience that "see, people actually do build airplanes in their
garages." It was nice to see how the plane progressed but in no way was it
intended to take someone through a complete building process, there was just
too many things left out. I've seen the tapes for sale at a very inflated
price from Sporty's and after watching the show on TV am glad that I didn't
waste my money on them. Even though the Orndorff videos are outdated for the
way kits come these days, they offer the builder a lot more insight into
building an RV.

According to what the EAA sent me (I'm the chapter newsletter editor) for
inclusion...
Any Item in the EAA Book/Video Catalog
(Excluding the SportAir Workshop Fabric & Composite Videos. 20% discount
applies to these videos.)

So it looks like 50% off. I found the series to be entertaining, with a few
good tips. And I was privileged to see the plane in person just before
flight tests. But it's not much of a "how to." It's a good overview, though.
Incidentally, the time slot on Discovery Wings for FTGU, has been taken by a
British series, "A Plane is Born." He's building a Europa Monocoupe. It's
hysterical, once you figure out what they're saying.

Just one more note on this. Make sure you talk to your chapter president.
All of the orders have to be submitted through your chapter...and there's
only one order allowed per chapter.
