Good Day
What type of performance would a RV3 have if it was equipped with
RV9 wings and empennage? Would there be much of a difference if it had
RV7 wings etc.? I am thinking of the RV mix and match philosophy for
aircraft construction. If the resultant aircraft had less than 100 HP
I would think that it would fall under the sport pilot
classifications. Any thoughts on the advantages or disadvantages? I
could almost see a ready-made RV as a possibility.
I know that I should just go off and primer my parts. But I just
can't help but wonder.

Warren,
Wondering is ok as long as it stops there! Vans airplanes are very
popular for a reason. Van has the ability to almost magically design
aircraft that are well balance to deliver a wide performance envelope.
He designed the different models for different wants, needs, and
desires. The RV-7 and RV-8 share the same wing. As for as I know,
RV-3, 6, and 9 major parts are not interchangeable. Unless you are a
John Harmon clone, I'd proceed with caution.
It sounds like the RV-9 would be well suited for you. It flies just
fine with the 108 hp 0235 Lycoming. The RV-3 I had the pleasure of
flying, does not need improvement. It was a rocket ship with a 150 hp,
and I'm sure it would fly just fine with 100 hp or less!
