If your budget is short like mine, then the advice about "Go Aviation
all the Way"just doesn't fit.I bought whelen strobes (power supply,4
strobes and 4 cables )for construction equipment for $200. They have
9 selectable flash patterns and are BRIGHT as any GA aviation
strobes. They just aren't weather-proof. I bought surplus teardrop
lights,with 2 sockets,from Bob@ <ramonacafe.com >for$5 each.Iused the
rear socket for tail light and cut off the front socket and put the
strobe there. They are covered by the teardrop glass lens. I will
install Van's flush nav light lens in each wing and put nav lights in
there.Cost $30.+ lights.
The strobes are visible in all required directions for legal night
flight.
I have a button to select the flash pattern I want-
single,double,quad,comet,etc. I like 'em!
You don't have to own the bank to equip,if you have a little
inginuity.

Are there issues with radio signal noise / interference with some of the
less expensive units?

Not according to the engineer I corresponded with at Nova. Remember the
less expensive ones are built for ambulances and police cars and they rely
on their radios too. I would guess that keeping the high voltage strobe
wiring as far from the coax antenna wire and following proper grounding
practices would do more for noise reduction in your aircraft than spending
money on power supplies. It is not possible to generate a high voltage
pulse in a wire and not create electrical noise no matter what the cost of
the device. Sure some will be better than others (mainly due to harmonics I
imagine) but you will have to protect your RF/Audio equipment from the noise
in any case.

Airplanes never win battles with the ground. The best the airplane can hope
for is a draw.
