After several e-mail from a builder on how I did my interior. I
thought Id pass along the info.. I brought the fuse only, unpainted,
to the automotive custom interior shop.

Couple of items of note.
I gave verbally the following list of specs for my
guy.
1. All panels & seats must pull off with velcro
2. 1 year warrantee parts and labor. (since your
constantly climbing in and out of the seats I wanted
to make sure if the quality of matierial was weak,
he'd replace them.
3. Pre-approval on seat design and fit. (I wanted to
sit in it with his foam design only before covering.
Only trouble here was he did not have the canopy.
after I installed the canopy weeks after taking
delivery my head hit the canopy from cushion too
thick. He did take 1 inch out for me anyway. Also in
6 months both of my seats have torn at a seam which he
will fix and triple stich.)
4. I left the design up to him but I told him I
wanted the folling charactics:
A. Classy Classy Classy, not flashy. I wanted
people to not just pass over it but really look at
detail and walk away saying "Wow, thats nice"
B. Slightly sporty Given the sporty nature of the
plane and paint
C. Obviously custom look
Hope this helps some. I was very happy with this and
so was the shop. The shop also thought it was cool
cause it meant a plane in there for a couple of
weeks and it was something different for them. They gave a
lot of thought to it and I made it VERY VERY clear
to them that this was my life's dream he had in his
shop and he'd better treat the plane, and job as such.
They did. I also made it clear to them how nervous I was
to have my plane worked on by someone else. Since it
was the only work I was not going to do my self. Oh did
I meantion I had to give rides to the shop guys who
worked on it? They got a kick out of that.
They used a backboard, very light weight kinda
plastic cardboard. Also they used some thin , 1/4" bubble
wrap with aluminum foil for under carpets. Any interior
shop will have this stuff. It works great and very
light. Now thats not to say my interior was light
cause I have everything covered. But I chose beauty
over weight.
Hope this helps.
