I am looking for a slick way of putting a lock on my canopy... I want to be able to lock it fully closed and partially open... What have you guy been doing? Got any good pictures?

Thanks...

Hi Bill,
A simple key lock, with a arm attached that locks into the sliding
rail works on the 6's
I have no pics sorry. I odered a combo sw/lock assemply so my ign.
key matches the slider lock.

A cut off wheel can cut a slot in the sliding rail for the arm from
the key lock to lock into. You can put as many slots in as you need
for any position. Ill try and remember to take some pics.

Hi Bill,
I have the RV-6A slider which I think is similar. You can go to my
website at:
www.ericsrv6a.com
Scroll down on the left side until you get to the "Finish" section
and click on "Canopy part 3" scroll down to about mid page and you
will see what I did.

Hope this helps,

I need help on fitting my slider for RV9A. (The problem.) The canopy frame
is 1/4 in wider than the rest of the canopy frame to the windscreen bow on
each side where it curves down to the fuselage preventing the glass from
fitting to the rollover frame. The canopy frame is 1/4 in. higher all around
except at these points which is 1/2 in. I don't think I can bend it to match
the windscreen bow. Has anyone else had this problem? After making the
initial flange trim on the glass I am not very happy with trying to get a
good cut with the die grinder. Is there a better method to cut the screen
from the canopy?

Thanks for any help.

By all means there is a better way. Use a Dremel tool with their cut off disk. A lot more control and cuts the canopy like butter.

Go back over the canopy directions. The front bow of the slider is suppose to be higher than the roll over bar for the windscreen. I would get the sides to fit properly and then work out the excess in the upper part of the bow.

Once you get the frame fitting the way you want it, then set it in the canopy (turned upside down) and move it around until it fits the frame the best. There is a bit of excess in the canopy so it can be moved without a problem.

If you have trouble getting the canopy to pull down right, take it outside on a sunny day and let it soak in the sun for a few hours. It will be a lot softer and easier to mold around.

If you still have trouble, call Vans and talk to them. They are a world of help if you just ask.
