Good guess on my occupation. I fly the EA-6B Prowler
out of Cherry Point, NC. Im also an A&P mech and
though I have entertained the idea of building one
myself, I have precious little time for anything but
work and weekends (commonly used for blowing off
steam).
You dont happen to have a line on any RV8tors in the
Eastern Carolina area do you?

Dutch....
No, am not familiar with any RVators on east coast. I
live out west, and go to work in Minnesota. I used to
fly 727s at Northwest, but I`ve been away for a while
after knee surgery, and wouldn`t you know it, they go
and retire my jet on me. When I go back, it`ll be
straight to the school house, probably A320, or if all
else fails, there`s always the DC9.
Ever fly TDY out of Whidbey? Those EA-6Bs fly a low
level training route that goes right by my house. I
live in the middle of nowhere, SE Washington. If you
have, you`ve probably been by. Aw yes...Jet roar...the
sound of freedom. I`ve toyed with the idea of building
a dummy SAM sight at the end of my runway. I bet a guy
could buy a surplus Russian SAM radar pretty cheap.
It sounds like you`re looking to buy instead of
build. Last time I looked, RVs were a little out of
your price range, if 55K was your limit. You might
find a halfway decent 4 at that price, but 6s and 8s
are way above that figure. That would still be okay
though. The only thing "wrong" with a 4 is that
they`re a little tight in the cockpit compared to a 6,
or 8. Still fly circles around any thing else out
there, except another RV. Happy hunting.

Hey Dutch,
We've got a few RV8's along with RV4's,RV6's,RV7's, and RV9's in
various stages of completion in our EAA Chapter 297. Some are flying
and some are just started. We're having a Fall Flyin and Barbecue
cookout on Oct. 12 at 7NC1. That's at Stag Park (just North of
Wilmington) and the home page of our chapter can be found at
http://www.eaa297.org/. Directions to be found there. The strip's
probably too short for the Prowler but it's only about an hour or so
drive for you. We've got several military members in our chapter so
we could probably find you somebody with a little in common. A couple
of our members are (now retired) P-51 drivers but you should see one
of their RV6As.
We've even had a group just finish a semi-working Wright Flyer
recently! You can contact me by using my metrocall.net pager and
sending a text message to 9104125844. Leave me a contact number and
name and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I'm a firefighter so
if I'm on duty or on a call it may be a few hours or so before I can
get back with you.
Hope that you and any others on the group list can make it to the
Flyin/cookout on Oct. 12
Talk to you soon,
Gene Jones
