Someone upstairs was monitoring this thread....
Amazingly enough, we had a large composite prop shed a blade today during a full-power 2700rpm run on a test stand. It was "exciting" to say the least. Nobody was injured (it's a dedicated test stand) but the engine was ripped from it's mount instantaneously.
We were testing a new fuel injection configuration.
This was a high-tech composite prop from a major certified mfr. rated for well in excess of 200hp @ 3000RPM...about 40hp higher power than the rated power of the engine. It lasted less than 10 total hours.
Those are the only details I'm at liberty to provide, except to say that this prop is NOT a prop sold for RV's or other similar high-speed applications.
In the course of testing props we've busted every type of prop (wood, metal, composite). Every major mfr. tests with us. It's no joke about engine/prop combinations.
