I'm thinking about using AKZO Epoxy-Primer(463-12-8&CA-116) and was
wondering if it needs to be thinned with TR-19 for sparying. This
thinner is VERY expensive and would rather not buy it if it's not
needed. Any comment from those using or have used the ANKO primer
would be appreciated.

AKZO, at least in the form I've used, comes in 2 parts. One part primer,
one part catalyst (both in gallon cans). Just mix 'em 1:1. The cost
included the catalyst when I last bought it a couple of years ago.
Great primer for interior structure...check with your paint mfr to make sure
it's compatible with a top coat, if you plan to cover it with color.

I used it too on interior parts without thinning and it worked fine,
easy to mix and spray, be sure to use adequate protection.

Bill,
I used AKZO throughout my 6A and couldn't be more pleased. A welcomed
benefit is that about an hour after applying, you can work with the
part. Also, after cure you can wipe the surface repeatedly with MEK
without worring about the primer breaking down and dissolving. I
applied it without thinning. Running MEK through the spray gun when
done is all I ever did to clean up. On occasion, I froze the
remaining unused primer after mixing and was able to use it a few
days later. A strong word of caution. Akzo(and MEK)is highly toxic
and just opening the can(s) in the basement will emit a sufficiently
strong odor guaranteed to upset the wife sitting upstairs. I cannot
over emphasize here. You simply must use adequate breathing
protection, the kind with screw-on filters and then applied with
generous cross ventilation. But, at some risk of flaring up the
perennial and unproductive primer wars, the final result is IMO the
finest available.

Thanks for the quick replys. I was afraid that I would start
another "Primer WAR" but didn't. Sounds like I won't need the
thinner, so I ordered the 2 gal kit this morning.
Thanks Again, this place is such a great resource.
