Home -> Vans Air Force topic: New Yahoo Group Some of the VAF gang might like to join: IFR

Author: "Doug Reeves" <vansairforce@...> Time: Wed Mar 24, 2004 3:47 am PST Link

Morning all,

As you might already know, I'm beginning to study for the
instrument rating exam. It's gonna take quite some time, but I've
been told by many, many people...people that fly for a living...that
it will make me a better pilot. So, because I can't just leave
things alone, I started a Yahoo Group called 'InstrumentFlightRules'
where people like me can bounce questions to (hopefully) people
knowing IFR answers.

The plea: If you are a CFII, an air traffic controller, an
airline transport pilot, a DAR, etc. - someone who can answer IFR-
related questions, please consider joining this group so those that
join can benefit from your knowledge. I envision this as a place
where people who are studying (like me) can post a note about
something they're lost on as well as a place where a current IFR-
rated pilot can post something that's puzzling/concerning them, etc.

Please tell all your friends that might be interested or be able
to contribute to this new group. Even non-RVers are welcome <g>.

Best,

Doug Reeves

Hey Doug,
I would suggest the Gleim materials. I scored 100% on
Instrument and a 98% on commercial after their self
study course. Your idea however is a great one.
Steve

[note from Doug before approving: I bought all the books too! Hope I pass.]

Doug,
I've followed your site for several years now. I hope to build an RV once I
retire (after my youngest starts college), but for now I occasionally have
the opportunity to fly with the SoCal flyers (Paul Rosales, Dave Klages,
Gary Sobek, and more) and occasionally talk to them from the ATC side, from
my real job --- LA Center. I fill some of the criteria you mentioned --
CFII, ATP, Center Controller -- all for more than 20 years. I've signed up
on your InstrumentFlightRules forum and will check in occasionally. Good
luck working on your studies --- it will make you a better pilot and add
another tool to your pilot bag.
Howard Long, LA Center
