Home -> Vans Air Force topic: strobe power

Author: <bsacks65@...> Time: Thu Dec 16, 2004 5:34 pm PST Link

I am interested in input concerning strobe power units. The only source for a three lamp single power unit was Bill at Creativair (as far as I know). However, he has stopped selling them for the time being, citing insurance reasons. Is there another supplier of power units for 3 lamps? Also, has anyone looked into strobe power units for emergency vehicles to install in an RV. These units power 2,4,6,lamps; are available in various output levels, but are larger and heavier than those designed for aircraft. Any ideas are appreciated.

output but the ones I have looked at didn't have the
output or was not up to standard , I also placed an
order with bill and was planning on get them for
myself for christmas , I didn't know that info you
just posted though.. also I was getting the whole
package because I think those are the best choices
that can be found..

I used a strobe pack intended for cars. The innards are made by Whelen, if
I recall correctly. More info here:

Bruce,
When you mention emergency vehicle systems, are you
referring to the Nova units sold by Strobes N' More?
I'm using one of their 904 power supplies. This is
claimed to be a 6 head unit. It will drive 6 strobes,
but a half the power of a Whelen. So, effectively,
this is really a 3 strobe supply. This system will
drive 3 strobes (90 watts) at the same power levels as
the Whelen unit. It comes with 4 bulbs & wiring
harness' for $250. You will need to purchase the stobe
focusing lens and retaining brackets (available from
Vans & ACS), as these aren't included.
However, you will have a spare bulb and wiring
harness! See

http://www.strobesnmore.com/

Look under complete systems for the SUPER PAC 904
system. $249.95

Charlie Kuss
PS This unit also gives you the choice of 4 flash
patterns just like the Whelen unit.

Bruce;
I use a Whelen power supply from > www.strobesnmore.com < in our RV-
4. I am very happy with it. The strobe units for vehicles are not
weather proof,so you have to mount them in a weatherproof enclosure.
My strobes have 9 flash patterns.

Pictures on Creativeair site didn't show any lense or retaining bracket and
I assumed the tube was inserted in a hole through the wing tip and secured
by screws. I have the newer sheared wing tips with the wingtip lense
though.

Greg;
Just go to > www.strobesnmore.com < and I'm sure you can find
a "Contact Us" spot somewhere.
I found my strobe kit in the"Specials" section of their website and
ordered online.

Greg
I can't speak to Creativeair's offerings. Strobes N'
More supplies the strobe bulbs, but no lens or
retainer . The FAA wants the light output biased to
the horizontal plane. That is the function of the
lens. These are available from Vans and ACS. Vans
listing is:

REPLACEMENT LENSES For A600, A650, A625 strobe
Part Number = LN A612 LENS,CLEAR
Price = $18.00

You'll have to ask them about the retainer. It's just
a stamped sheet steel retainer which holds the bulb &
lens to the base surface (your wing tip).

ACS's online catalog listing is a bit jumbled.
Tomorrow I'll check my paper catalog (it's at my shop)
and give the proper part numbers.
