Mark,
I have a modest supply of MS21070L04 platenuts, but no K1100
(dimpled) type. I really can't say if such an animal exists. I used
them to install all of the RV-8A's empennage fiberglass tips with
flush #4 screws. What application would you need the dimpled type
for?

Hi Rick,
I was looking to use them on an access cover on the forward fuselage of
an RV-8. I was going to use -6, but I did not leave enough edge
distance so rather than making the thing over again I was going to go
to a smaller screw. I found some non-countersunk/dimpled -4's from
Cleveland.
thanks,
Mark

Think 4,6,8,or 10 in screw size. The #4 nutplate accepts a 4-40
screw. BTW, I searched and Google searched but Cleaveland seems to
offer the best pricing on (G)MS21047L04 nutplates at .36c apiece. The
average supplier seems to want anywhere from 40-50 cents per. The
highest priced vendor I found wanted .79c each! Thank you Cleaveland!

I may have to retract that last bit of mis information.
A -4 nut plate would be for a -4 bolt, which is 1/4 inch threads
A -6 nut plate, I dunno.
But I don't think its for a #6 screw. maybe something -06 would be
for a #6 w/ 32 threads.
A #4 screw would be - -- something 440 maybe
I'm so confused here.
Almost as confused as the guy looking for the chewing gum that he
dropped in the chicken house.

You're not mistaken, Cary. MS numbering system ending in -4 generally is a 1/4-28.
The 6-32 ends with -06.
I think what the guys are talking about here is screw size -04, which is mighty small. I
believe the smallest size screw on my airplane is a 6-32 except maybe for some size 02
and 04's with instruments.

The numbering system is not particularly difficult. There is a vast
difference between ending an MS number in 04 such as MS21047L04
nutplate which accepts a 4-40 screw or an MS ending in 4 such as an
MS21050-4 nutplate which accepts a 1/4" bolt. The use of 4-40
screws can be quite common on RV's. I found extensive use for 4-40
screws and its nutplate companions all over my RV including the
popular Cleaveland wingtip hardware kits that use this size screw
exclusively for attaching wingtips in place.
