An O-360 with standard compression heads should run mogas quite well.
Mine has.

RV-6 With O-360 & CS Prop ... I run Mo-Gas (93 Octane) all the time. RUNS GREAT.
Also I fly an RV-6A w/O-360 and fixed pitch ... Same statement ... Mo-Gas RUNS GREAT (93 Octane).
The standard compression for the O-360 is 8.5 : 1 which requires the high octane gas.

Barry,
How many hours/year on the engines with Mo-Gas? Just wonder what the long
term effects are on engine life.

Greetings fellow aviators,
The Subaru H6 loves 93 octane mogas (not that you Lycoming guys are
interested :). It also runs on 100LL but it's a good idea to add a lead
scavenger to keep the O2 sensors clean. Sometimes on a cross country mogas
is not available.
It is a very good idea to use a vapor pressure tester when running mogas.
100LL always tests around 65 kPa's, but some mogas will come in at less than
40. The lowest I have seen this summer is 49 at 85F. Some of us carry an
altitude conversion chart and without looking at it, I would guess 49 is
good up to at least 15000'.
Actually, the price of all fuel has gone ballistic. I don't fly as much as
I did a year ago.

Daniel:
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you.
With the three planes that I fly using MoGas I would break it down this way:
RV-6, O-360 w/cs/prop ... 90% of the time on MoGas ... 130 Hrs per year.
RV-6A, O-360 w/fixed pitch ... 50% of the time on MoGas (this plane does LOTS of cross country) ... 150 Hrs per year.
AA-5, O-320 HC w/fixed pitch ... 95% of the time on MoGas ... 110 Hrs per year.
The two MAJOR problems I have seen with these planes on AvGas are: COST and Lead Fouling.
Planes that fly 100% of the time on AvGas will experance Valve Coking problems.
