Hi,
I'm looking for a way to be able to recharge or jumpstart my battery which is in the back of an RV8 from outside the plane.
What I have in mind is a receptacle which is flush with the bottom of the fuse
and has a rubber plug to seal it while not in use. I want the wire sized to be
able to handle the current of a jump start and bolted to the battery just like
the start/ground cables are. I am not aware I've seen something like this
before except for a bigger version like an APU jack in military aircraft but
that's overkill for an RV. But I thought I heard it discussed in past years on
the list but my archive search didn't turn up anything. I was hoping West
Marine would have something similar but I didn't find anything.
Any ideas?
thx,
lucky

Mount a very small light weight "Anderson Plug". It's made of electrical grade plastic and is used in the golf cart industry for systems up to 36 volt. Cheap and effective...
For charging you would put one one the charger cord end.
For Jump starting you would carry a very short plug in receptacle for the FBO line person to attach to.
It would weigh hardly nothing at all.

The normal plugs that Piper uses is large and heavy, but it works. It
has a solenoid between the bulkhead socket and the battery that is
energized when an external source is plugged in. This isolates the
bulkhead socket from the battery to prevent spitzensparken in case
something else is pluged in. The Cessna plug/socket is huge compared to
Pipers. Either way, they are standard and you can get a jump from
almost any airport that has an FBO. If you cludge your own, then you
have to carry an adapter with you all the time.

I used a Piper type plug from Spruce, mounted on the bottom, behind the rear mounted
battery. It works fine and was under $25.

Its not good for 'jumping' a dead battery, but
wire a auto cigarette lighter plug for all time power, ie not thru
the master, then you can use a battery tender or charger to charger
the batt.
and you can plug ur cell phone in to charge it overnite at the
flyins.
